    The resort city of Sanya, in Hainan Province, the southernmost region of China, has joined the 2011-12 race route. Sanya, the sole Asian stopover, will host the finish of leg three, which starts from Abu Dhabi.

    The United Arab Emirates capital, Abu Dhabi, has been included in the 2011-12 race route. A racing team from Abu Dhabi will also be on the start line in Alicante, Spain in the autumn of next year.

    Lisbon has fought off tough competition to be chosen as the first of the European ports for the 2011-12 Volvo Ocean Race. It will be the first time that the historic Portuguese port has hosted a stopover.
